Gearing up for Guinea Pigs

yup....you read that correctly....guinea pigs.
Peruvians eat guinea pigs and they leave the head on when they serve it to you. (Obviously, I'm pumped for my first experience. Pictures will be taken.)
That's just one of the few things I have learned over the past 2 weeks at orientation.
Actually, come to think of it, it's one of the very few things I've really learned about Peru specifically.
Orientation has focused on many things so far and my brain has definitely been suffering from information overload.
Here's some highlights to give you a glimpse on some of the topics we have covered thus far:
  • Mission Theology (a combo of the history and definition of mission and some liberation theology and method)
  • Accompaniment
  • Racism and accompaniment/becoming an ally
  • Conflict resolution
  • Restorative Justice
Cap Corps Orientation has been an absolute blessing!  I was extremely nervous about meeting Michael, the other volunteer headed down to Lima with me, but even though he is from rural Nebraska (farm boy!) we get along extremely well and both view this as an opportunity to really discern where God is leading us in life. I am really grateful to have been paired with Michael and for meeting and getting to know all the other Cap Corps volunteers. It has been awesome to have a community after only 10 days on which I know I can rely.

What else can I tell you.....
oh right.....I LEAVE TOMORROW!!!!!!!!!!
it still seems somewhat surreal that by this time tomorrow I will be in Lima getting ready to go to language school for 3 weeks. Crazy crazy crazy, but I'm going anyways! Wish me luck and pray for me!

  1. Hi Jeanette! Read your blog entries after Tara sent me the blog site. What an adventure!!! Don't forget though, God doesn't call the qualified, he qualifies the called! Under His wing, you'll be great!!!
