Going with the flow

Literally!
Today after morning Mass, I asked Hermano Hugo what the schedule looked like for the coming week and he said we have nothing until next week. Instead of getting upset at not knowing this ahead of time, I took advantage of the day.
Alyssa, one of the volunteers, who is leaving in a week, decided over the weekend that it was high time that she tried surfing.  Living on the coast, having some great waves and cheap lessons = way easier to learn here than in the US, plus being land locked doesn’t make learning very easy back at home.
Alyssa and I with our instructors after the lesson
She needed someone to go with her and I said ‘I’ll go with you, but I have to work all week, so we have to wait for the weekend probably”
Just Kidding!  We went this morning....I wish I had gone earlier. It was so much FUN!
My instructor was 14 too…and has been surfing since he was 5/6. Let’s say I felt a little stupid, but laughed a lot at myself. Fernando my instructor laughed at me too….typical teenage boy ;-)

I’ve been smiling ever since being done this morning, so I thought I would give the update. No work, I was nervous for nothing and learned to go with the flow (literally and figuratively). Not too shabby for a Wednesday.
On the walk to lunch...both ecstatic about just learning how to surf

  1. Hi Jeanette,
Glad to hear you're having a good time while you're serving! Are U ready...I grew up during my highschool years in California and surfed a lot. I was pretty much average, but had a great time doing it. Took a few "surfin safaris" to Mexico, up and down California coast etc. It is a very good physical and mental sport, not to mention very healthy and what a tan! Maybe some day we can compare notes. I was called a goofy foot (always went left). Hope you're in good health and God's will!
